Elementary School
Oak Crest Private School’s Beginner program (Pre-K, Kindergarten and first grade)
launches our youngest students right into a decidedly academic program.
While maintaining a fun, lively, action-packed class, students are guided into mastering the alphabet, phonics
and then begin reading.
Throughout the pre-school through fourth grade levels, a strong math program and an emphasis on writing
skills including penmanship launch students into their early education with a very solid foundation.
Due to our small class sizes and the individualized nature of our programs, students are advanced as soon as
they have learned the materials that have been presented.
Students with a purpose to learn can move ahead very rapidly. However, no
student moves on to the next lesson until he or she has completely understood and can apply the previously
presented material.
Oak Crest Private School’s aim is to challenge every child without overwhelming any.
We do not place children at a particular level based on their age, but rather place and advance each child based
on his or her knowledge and ability to complete the work assigned.
The emphasis at Oak Crest Private School is always on nurturing a student’s ability to apply the skills
learned.
In order to link what is being taught in the classroom to the real world, a student can expect to participate in
a lot of field trips.
Reading, handwriting and spelling lessons are tightly aligned to ensure that each
student gets a solid phonics-based understanding of the English language. No letter or symbol is
introduced without first thoroughly defining it for the child.
In this manner, the child acquires great certainty of the materials covered, and rapidly becomes a confident
reader and speller.
The emphasis throughout the school, but particularly in the reading class is on ensuring that the student fully
understands what has been read.
Due to our small class sizes, the teacher is able to check with each individual child to ensure that no
confusions are left behind.
Penmanship is practiced with the goal for students to be able to write beautifully
and rapidly in both manuscript printing and later in cursive handwriting before they learn to type.
The math seminars for grades K through 5 provide a high level of communication in math and produce a solid
understanding of the key math concepts. Lessons are given seminar-style, providing lively classroom interaction,
followed by mathematics drilling.
All of these programs are based on the educational breakthroughs of American educator, L. Ron Hubbard.
